Imperfect JOY® is currently in production.
Our vision is to create multiple film series with a companion podcast, Instagram, and blog. Each series will focus on 5-10 families from a given category (e.g. pediatric critical illness, veterans, trauma survivors).
We will share stories that depict how the pain of difficult circumstances can coexist with the beauty of embracing joy in everyday, ordinary moments.

IN THEIR WORDS
Resilience
IN THEIR WORDS
From Brene Brown
“Joy, collected over time, fuels resilience – ensuring we’ll have reservoirs of emotional strength when hard things do happen.”
From Resilience: Hard-Won Wisdom for Living a Better Life by Eric Greitens
“Life’s reality is that we cannot bounce back. We cannot bounce back because we cannot go back in time to the people we used to be. The parent who loses a child never bounces back. The nineteen-year-old who sails for war is gone forever, even if he returns. You know that there is no bouncing back. There is only moving through. What happens to us becomes a part of us. Resilient people do not bounce back from hard experiences; they find healthy ways to integrate them into their lives.
“In time, people find that great calamity met with great spirit can create great strength.”
Kordich-Hall and Pearson, 2006, p.63
“Families today are exposed to high levels of daily stress, and the incidence of childhood depression is increasing. Despite our best efforts, we cannot prevent adversity and stress. We can, however, learn to be more resilient by changing how we think about challenges and adversities.”

In order to preserve the authenticity and vulnerability needed to allow families to share their inner world with us, it’s important that we do not allow advertising and sponsorships on this platform. Instead we’re turning to you, our viewers. If you are able, please donate to make this project possible.

Melody bottled up the essence of our family.
She is the only photographer I know who can capture what our love feels like.
-Linda F.
Our session was such a normal, relaxed day at home,
but every moment Melody captured felt special.
-Mike F.
Melody is the most caring, genuine person who truly
takes care to give you a unique experience that captures the moment.
-Ana B.
We are creating a network of family photographers and filmmakers to support a wide availability of sessions for these families. Since this is our first year operating as a fiscally sponsored project, sessions are currently limited to select days and locations until we are able to expand over the coming years.
