Inspiration
It comes as no surprise that wishes have the power to change a child’s life, but what surprised us is how it changed ours.
Abriella was battling the same mitochondrial disease that took her brother Bryce just two years earlier. Our community came together to throw her a dream wedding, a celebration of love for everyone in her life to rally around.
Being witness to the granting of a wish left an indelible impression on us. It inspired us to create this series so others can experience these life-changing moments.

I was blown away by the love Melody and David put into this film for us. Now we have these memories preserved for a lifetime.

Concept Film
Sponsored by SONY Alpha Female+
After being inspired by Aubriella’s story, we connected with Make-A-Wish® Massachusetts & Rhode Island to see if we could help tell the story of another wish fulfillment. Together we developed a film that depicted how a wish is more than what it may seem on the surface. Just The First Step tells the big hearted story of Conor and is a model for the form of the Imperfect JOY® Docuseries.
This project was sponsored by the Sony Alpha Female+ grant, an honor given to only 24 women who create extraordinary art who challenge tradition, fight for important causes, and hold the torch of creativity to light the way for those coming behind them.

Our Vision
We hope this series will bring together the village that supports the collective vision of wish granting organizations to grant a wish for every eligible child.
Annually, there are an estimated 27,000 children in the United States that are diagnosed with a qualifying condition. Approximately 200 nonprofits nationwide deliver joy and hope to kids battling critical illness through wish granting. Wishes serve as more than just a smile on these kids’ faces for one day. 100% of medical providers say a wish experience improves a child’s emotional well-being.*
We hope that our films will encourage families and medical professionals to make referrals as well as inspire donor and volunteer support for wish organizations so that all kids with critical illness can experience the magic of childhood again.

CAPTURING
Imperfect Joy
Our hope is that these families’ stories will be a reminder of the beauty in being fully present for joy no matter what challenges lay ahead.
Each episode of the Imperfect JOY® docuseries will start with an interview in a family’s home where they can truly be themselves. Then we’ll follow them through an ordinary day to show what it actually looks like to care for a child with a critical illness, while also capturing the little sparks of joy that are present in everyday moments.
